Oregon’s Wine Country Hotel Boom
Today’s blog brought to you by, Franziska Haus signature Chat GPT-free blogging
The room grab in Oregon’s world renowned wine country starts many months, sometimes years ahead of time. By summer and most definitely by harvest season, area hotels and inns are trading calls to find any scarce remaining availabilities for our cherished visitors. From Michelin star to quaint, functional to avant guard, developers have found their nexus here in the Willamette Valley Wine Country, specifically Yamhill County. We at Franziska Haus want to share the news of our industry’s exciting new up and coming lodging partners!
Terrain Hotel
With its designated nearly 4 acre site on the corner of 9th street and Hwy 99 in downtown Dundee, the Terrain Hotel aims to provide a mixed use development project with a proposed 72 room hotel, 13 cabins, marketplace, viticulture center, event space and spa. Such a commercial center will significantly transform the feel of downtown Dundee. Waechter Architecture, in close cooperation with PLACE Landscape Architecture, has focused its design on a venue that flows coherently with respect to the town’s existing neighborhoods and community as a whole.
According to the Waechter Architecture’s website, this upcoming hotel and auxiliary businesses entails a series of five simple bar buildings, each decreasing in scale from center to perimeter. The aim is to “create transitional filters that become more porous and open toward the residential edge”. The Dundee City Planning Department has provided conditional approval after conducting a comprehensive site development review of this proposed mixeduse commercial development. According to city hall administrators, this conditional approval does entail a number of plan modifications. Original construction start date is slated for summer 2024.
Stoller’s Downtown Dayton Suites
Dayton city hall administrators report that Bill Stoller’s development company is in the process of remodeling a portion of downtown Dayton’s Merchant Block at 303 Ferry Rd. This is the same Bill Stoller who has just been awarded the prestigious Diploma of Honor by the Federation Internationale des Confreries Bachiques. He finds himself as one of only 26 recipients spanning 10 countries since the awards inception in 1963, according to Wine Business press release 6-6-24. Stoller holds a significant wine foot print in Oregon’s premier wine industry with his renowned vineyard spanning 400 acres, the largest contiguous vineyard in Oregon’s Dundee Hills, and his historical redevelopment projects in Dayton. You might say Bill Stoller continues to pay homage to the small farming town he grew up in, working on the family’s farm.
The current Merchant Block renovation includes 12 apartment short term rental suites set to be completed the end of 2024. The Oregon Wine Press (Feb 1 2016) reported that this current project is part of Bill Stoller's accumulation of several downtown Dayton properties since 2007. The aim is to support Dayton’s historic revitalization efforts. Stoller’s group to date has remodeled the Civil War era church wherein the Block House cafe currently operates. With restoration efforts such as these, Dayton remains emblematic of the charm of its original 1800’s historic “Courthouse Square Block” town center. Strolling the sidewalk of downtown Dayton, one can’t help but notice that the Stoller influence is consequential for the continuing evolution of this small quaint farming town.
